What is Microneedling?

Rejuvenate your skin. Stay youthful.

Microneedling is the latest trend in the quest to stay youthful. It uses fine needles to puncture the skin and create a controlled skin injury in order to rejuvenate the skin. It is also called Needling, Collagen Induction Therapy (CIT) and Percutaneous Collagen Induction (PCI).

PERFECT FOR: Fine lines and wrinkles; Reduce pore size; Photo-aging, rough, leathery skin texture; Hyper-pigmentation; Hypo-pigmentation; Acne-scars; Stretch marks.

Microneedling, also known as collagen induction therapy, is one of our most popular treatments to address signs of ageing, stretch marks, and acne scars. Using The SkinPen device can precisely deliver micro-injuries to trigger the body’s natural wound healing process. These micro-injuries initiate the release of growth factors that lead to the remodelling of elastin and collagen. Microneedling is ideal in any season with little to no downtime and beautiful lasting results!

The micro-needling device causes controlled micro-injuries that stimulate the body’s natural wound healing process. The micro-injuries trigger the release of cytokines and growth factors that lead to remodelling of collagen and elastin.

There are three phases to the wound repair process:

Phase I: Inflammation. Piercing the skin triggers your immune system to disinfect the wounds, remove debris, increase blood flow and begin to create new tissue.

Phase II: Proliferation. The wound is re-built with new granulation cells, as well as a temporary (type III) collagen and elastin, which are part of the extracellular matrix. Additionally, a new network of blood vessels develops.

Phase III: Remodeling. The wound has been replaced with new dermal tissues and blood vessels. The type III collagen in the newly formed tissue is replaced with stronger type I collagen, which can contract to create a tightening or “shrinkwrap” effect on the skin.

Micro-Needling with Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP)

Micro-needling with PRP can boost the rejuvenation process and help achieve desired results quicker. A practitioner will draw blood, place the blood into a centrifuge, and spin the blood at a rapid rate to separate the platelets from the other components. The platelet-rich plasma is activated to release at least eight essential growth factors and signal proteins. These growth factors play a significant role in cell growth, fibroblast product, tissue repair, collagen growth, and may optimize conditions for healing.
